Creepy Sleepy Show 126 - Why Radiohead Matters
Last week Radiohead released their highly-anticipated new album In Rainbows direct to consumers/fans via their website. As we all know, the story thus far has been the band’s bold move of allowing customers to name their price, or opt to simply get it for free. Pitchfork reported last week that In Rainbows was downloaded 1.2 million times it it’s first 24 hours of availability.
Due to Radiohead’s success, other bands have announced intentions to follow a similar model. The story - while superficially entertaining as simply a rocknroll story - symbolizes yet another crack in the antiquated business model exclusive control of intellectual property by large corporations. This is not just a music-business or a media industry story, but rather a symbolic gesture demonstrating the pendulum swing towards control content producers.
So, the Creepy Sleepy panel convened to discuss the implications of DRM-free rocknroll. Creepy Sleepy Show 126 features commentary from Greg Hollingsworth of Devil in the Details, and Minister of Intrigue, Dan Andrlik talking about information, freedom, and Radiohead.
