Castro Dead? - NOPE!

Early reports are coming in from Wendy Wang - Talk Radio New’s Chief D.C. Correspondent - that Fidel Castro has died. There are several unconfirmed rumors flying around the Interwebs - as soon as we confirm from Washington, we’ll post the details. For now, here’s a few other sources:

This is a product of false legitimacy on blogs that Dan and I have talked about. When someone hears some rumor, some blogger picks it up. The “legit” news sources (who demonstrate their lack of legitimacy) pick the blog up, and then report it, and others then begin reporting that from “Legit” sources. Then someone who is usually right on about checking sources, like our Friend Dan, here picks it up through someone he trusts, and posts it, right along with others on his blog. Everyone wants to be the first to break the story, and so are incredibly susceptible to rumors started by a group whose objectivity (to say the absolute least) is suspect. They figure that if they can get a rumor into the blogosphere EVERYONE and his brother will jump on it, and normally rigorous people will get suckered.

In fact it was little more than a rumor and a guess, connecting several unrelated incidents into “Fidel Castro is dead”. I gotta say, if you don’t get at least SOME of your news from real sources (that is, government sources) you’re going to get tricked. This is why it is more important to watch what the government(s) says, and basically ignore what “Perez Hilton” has to say about Fidel Castro. He’s good with the teen trash, not so good with international events.

When it matters, the government will only lie to you when they want to get you to do something you don’t want to do.

W Doc Stodden
Supernova Earth, and official debunker (at least w/r Creepy Sleepy Media) of the newest “Castro Is Dead” myth of the day.

This was obviously an attempt by the Bush Administration to divert attention from the resignation of Alberto Gonzales. Or it may have been an attempt by Perez Hilton to divert attention from Lindsay Lohan’s stint in rehab.

Rumors are just that rumors, and I have to say that I don’t think that this was in any way an attempt by Dan to mislead anyone. He got a report, said Castro may be dead and we are trying to confirm. When the confirmation came back, he updated stating as much.

Yes, everyone and their brother will jump on a rumor if it is as big as this, and no offense but Talk Radio News is a legit news source. I’m pretty sure Dan wasn’t perusing Perez Hilton’s website and thought it was credible.

I think you’re just mad that everyone is anxiously awaiting the death of Castro, you dirty socialist you!
