The New Scum: The Future and Creepy Sleepy
Creepy Sleepy is now a part of PodShow. Many of our subscribers have emailed us both in favor of, and in opposition to our new alliance. While I acknowledge the trepidations many of you have expressed, I would like to assure you our involvement with PodShow will only have a positive effect on the Creepy Sleepy Show. After much careful consideration and deliberation, we concluded that entering into a relationship with PodShow will greatly facilitate Creepy Sleepy in accomplishing its goals - both short and long term (see below), disseminating our message to a larger audience, and executing our mission statement.
Two things can be assured:
1.) I have met with the people at PodShow, and they all possess high moral fortitude.
2.) PodShow will make no editorial decisions in regards to the Creepy Sleepy Show; our politics will remain unchanged.
Official Mission Statement
Creepy Sleepy will engage in discourse on and consideration of contemporary politics, media and culture from the perspective of an independent, citizen journalist. Additionally, Creepy Sleepy will strive to allow the free expression dissenting opinions on the podcast, blog and forums. Although Creepy Sleepy will establish positions on particular issues, we firmly believe that they key to a successful democracy is the free and open exchange of differing ideas and opinions.
Specific goals for 2006
1.) Cover the 2006 mid-term campaign and ensuing election. Of particular interest to Creepy Sleepy will be the various applications of technology and so-called New Media on the political process. Prior to the election, Creepy Sleepy intends to provide an outlet for various political views. On November 7th, 2006, Creepy Sleepy will experiment with ‘live’ podcast coverage of the election returns with the intent of providing accurate coverage from an independent perspective.
2.) Promote our Vote for No One campaign. In the months preceding the election, Creepy Sleepy will disseminate a consistent message encouraging the electorate to Vote for No One. Creepy Sleepy acknowledges the importance of voting as a means for the citizen to engage in the political process. However, Creepy Sleepy maintains that although both major political parties claim members and representatives of high moral character, the Parties themselves are corrupt and no longer represent their constituents. We believe that voting in local referendums, while refusing to cast a ballot endorsing candidates of the two major political parties will send a clear message of voter discontent with the current structure of the American political system.
3.) Establishment of a not-for-profit organization. We fully acknowledge the potential that digital distribution of media content possesses, but recognize that only a limited portion of the population has access to this technology. Creepy Sleepy will investigate the possibility of launching CreepySleepy.org; an organization with the intention of collecting funds from our subscribers. We will then donate the money to various educational institutions, libraries, and other organizations that assist in providing access to technology and information to financially disadvantaged persons.
4.) Pursue various opportunities of engaging in ‘traditional’ media. While Creepy Sleepy supports the digital distribution of media content, we also understand the desire for the consumer to possess artifacts. Creepy Sleepy believes that the compact disc is an inferior and dead medium. We will investigate the possibility of pressing a limited number of vinyl records, with a coupon included that will entitle the consumer to download the tracks on the record, free of charge. These tracks will be at a high bit-rate, and contain no DRM. Direct purchase of the album tracks will be administered via the Podsafe Music Network. Additionally, Creepy Sleepy will pursue the possibility of publishing a book of essays from our favorite independent bloggers.
We are excited about our new relationship with PodShow, as well as the opportunities it affords us. 2006 will be a helluva year!
Finally, but perhaps most importantly, Creepy Sleepy humbly thanks you. Most assuredly we would accomplish very little without the support of our subscribers. You are greatly appreciated.
