Own an MP3 player? Did you fill it with songs from your CD collection? Criminal!
Okay, I’ll try to not make a habit of posting news items from our forum, but you really do need to read this story. Obviously this hasn’t been signed into law (yet), but is so stunningly stupid, only the RIAA and major record labels could have brewed up this lame turd of an idea. Criminalizing the ripping and transfering of your OWN music onto an mp3 player? Huh? Does the music business no longer hire PR people? Didn’t someone, at some meeting say, ‘look guys, I know that piracy sucks and all, but let’s try to not smoke PCP before meetings, okay?’
I wonder what John Locke would say about this. Have we no personal property rights? What about privacy?
Are they gonna sue Steve Jobs? Oh. wait.
So, in the future, keep in mind that those CDs you legally purchased for 17 bucks a pop, aren’t actually yours. How dare you even consider filling your mp3 player with something that you mistakenly thought you owned? What were you thinking?
