Tookie Williams set to die: State high court denies plea to stay execution
I am not a Christian, yet I believe that humans must always strive for forgiveness. I do not condone the death penalty, yet I understand that there are many terrible people on Death Row. Tookie Williams is not one of them. Allowing him to be executed would send a terrible message about America’s values.

The California Supreme Court on Sunday night unanimously denied an emergency request by lawyers of condemned killer Stanley Tookie Williams to halt his execution.
The decision leaves a clemency declaration by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and longshot petitions to federal courts as the last hope for Williams, who is scheduled to die by lethal injection at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.”

“Williams is a co-founder of the Crips street gang. He became a cause celebre when he publicly repudiated gang ways, began writing children’s books in prison and garnered Nobel Prize nominations for literature and peace.
He was convicted of the Feb. 27, 1979, shooting death of Albert Owens during a Southern California convenience store robbery, and was also convicted of the March 11, 1979, murders of motel owners Yen-I Yang and Tsai-Shai Yang and their daughter, Yee-Chen Lin.
The state prosecutors’ response to Williams’ weekend appeal, written by Deputy Attorney General Lisa J. Brault, noted Williams had filed four habeas corpus writs with the state Supreme Court and an amended habeas corpus writ in federal court in the 20 years of his case, all of which had been denied.”
There will be riots.
